Hair Transplant Malaysia

A hair transplant moves your own hair follicles from a donor area (usually the back of the scalp) to thinning or bald areas. In Malaysia, the most common method is FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction), priced roughly RM5,500–RM20,000+ depending on graft count, with visible results appearing in 6–12 months.

Regain Your Confidence with SMART™ FUE Hair Transplant Malaysia

GLOJAS Specialist Clinic in Desa Sri Hartamas, Kuala Lumpur is one of Malaysia’s most internationally recognised hair restoration centres, built around the SMARTTM FUE technique — a proprietary, doctor-led approach developed by the clinic’s founder.

The clinic is led by Prof. Dato’ Dr. JasG, Founder and Medical Director, with over 30 years of clinical experience in hair restoration. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery (ABHRS), the first in Malaysia to hold this credential, and a Fellow of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (FISHRS). He also serves as President of the Malaysian Hair Restoration Society.

It is a Ministry of Health Malaysia-accredited clinic with an award-winning track record. GLOJAS has been recognised as Best Hair Transplant Clinic in Asia by GlobalHealth Asia-Pacific across multiple years (2020, 2021, 2023–2025), alongside honours from the Malaysia Book of Records, The BrandLaureate, and SEBA Awards. To date, the clinic has performed over 100,000 procedures.

GLOJAS treats the full range of cases, from early hair loss and diffuse thinning to advanced Norwood-stage baldness, crown restoration, and complex revision or scar-repair cases including post-burn and cleft palate scalp cases. Its services include FUE hair transplant, hairline and crown restoration, PRP hair therapy, non-surgical hair loss treatment, and eyebrow and beard restoration.

What Is a Hair Transplant

A hair transplant is a surgical procedure that moves healthy, DHT-resistant hair follicles from a “donor area” (usually the back and sides of the scalp) to areas experiencing thinning or baldness. Because donor-area follicles are genetically resistant to the hormone that causes pattern baldness, transplanted hair typically continues growing for life once it takes root in the new location.

It’s used to treat:

  • Male pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia)
  • Female hair loss and diffuse thinning
  • Receding hairlines
  • Crown and vertex balding
  • Scarring from burns, surgery, or previous poorly performed transplants
  • Eyebrow and beard restoration

FUE Hair Transplant Cost in Malaysia

FUE hair transplant before after result in malaysia | GLOJAS Specialist Clinic

Hair transplant cost in Malaysia typically ranges from RM5,000 to RM25,000, depending on the number of grafts, technique used (FUE or FUT), clinic reputation, and surgeon experience. Many clinics offer personalised consultations and treatment plans. A professional assessment provides the most accurate cost estimate for your individual needs.

At GLOJAS, affordable hair transplants start at just RM3 per graft — the best rate from Malaysia’s award-winning clinic. With 100% transparent pricing, zero hidden fees, and elite MOH-registered surgeons, you get premium, natural, permanent results without breaking the bank.

Pricing in Malaysia is usually quoted per graft or as a package based on the number of grafts needed. Based on current market rates across Kuala Lumpur clinics:

Provider TypeTypical Price Range (RM)Notes
Technician-led / budget clinicsRM5–7 per graft (~RM7,500–15,000 for an average session)Lower cost, but procedure may not be doctor-performed
Mid-range clinicsRM15,000–30,000Doctor-supervised, standard FUE
Premium doctor-led clinicsRM8,000–35,000 depending on graft count and complexityDoctor-performed FUE, internationally accredited

International comparison: A hair transplant that costs RM15,000–35,000 (~USD 3,200–7,500) in Malaysia can cost 3–5x more in the US, UK, or Australia for a comparable doctor-led procedure — a major reason Malaysia has become a regional hub for hair transplant medical tourism.

⚠️ A note on “per graft” pricing: The cheapest per-graft rate isn’t always the best value. Ask directly whether your procedure will be performed by a licensed doctor or handed off to technicians — this affects both safety and graft survival rate.

What Affects the Price?

  1. Number of grafts needed — determined by your Norwood/Ludwig scale stage
  2. Technique — FUE/DHI generally costs more per graft than FUT
  3. Doctor-led vs technician-led — doctor-performed procedures command a premium but reduce risk
  4. Clinic accreditation — ISHRS/ABHRS-affiliated clinics typically price higher, reflecting training and safety standards
  5. Technology used — motorised punches, robotic-assisted extraction, and implanter pens add cost
  6. Case complexity — scar repair, advanced baldness, or eyebrow/beard work require more precision

Types of Hair Transplant: FUE vs DHI vs FUT

MethodHow It WorksScarringDowntimeBest For
FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction)Individual follicles extracted one-by-one with a fine punch tool, then implantedMinimal — tiny dot scars, undetectable with short hair5–7 daysMost patients; natural hairlines, no linear scar
DHI (Direct Hair Implantation)A variation of FUE using a specialised “implanter pen” to place grafts directly without pre-making incisionsMinimal, similar to FUE5–7 daysPrecise density control, smaller sessions
FUT/FUSS (Strip Method)A strip of scalp is surgically removed and dissected into graftsLinear scar at donor site10–14 daysPatients needing very high graft counts in one session

FUE and its DHI variant are now the standard in most reputable Malaysian clinics because they leave no linear scar and allow patients to keep hair short after healing.

Why Malaysia for Hair Transplant?

  • Cost savings of 60–80% compared to Western countries, without sacrificing quality at accredited clinics
  • English-speaking medical staff and straightforward visa-free entry for many nationalities
  • Internationally trained specialists — several Malaysian surgeons hold ABHRS and ISHRS credentials
  • Established medical tourism infrastructure in Kuala Lumpur, including multilingual clinic support and fly-in patient packages
  • A maturing, competitive industry — Malaysia is now home to numerous dedicated hair restoration clinics across Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya, and other hubs, with some individual providers reporting caseloads in the tens of thousands and millions of grafts transplanted collectively, reflecting the country’s growing specialisation in this field

How to Choose a Safe, Qualified Clinic

Before booking, verify:

  • Is the procedure performed by a licensed doctor, not solely by technicians?
  • Is the clinic registered with the Ministry of Health Malaysia?
  • Does the lead surgeon hold recognised credentials (e.g. ABHRS Diplomate, ISHRS Fellow)?
  • Can they show verifiable before/after cases, not stock photos?
  • Is pricing transparent, with no hidden fees for anaesthesia, medication, or follow-up?
  • Do they offer a structured aftercare and follow-up plan?

How Does a Hair Transplant Work?
Step-by-Step Procedure

Step 1: Consultation & Hairline Design

The doctor assesses your donor area at the back of the head, calculates the number of grafts needed, and designs a new hairline based on your face shape, age, and natural hair direction. The graft plan is confirmed with you before starting.

Step 2: Preparation & Local Anesthesia

Your scalp is cleaned. Local anesthesia is injected into the donor and recipient areas. You stay awake during the procedure and feel no pain. Some clinics offer mild sedatives if needed.

Step 3: Follicle Extraction

For FUE: The doctor uses a 0.7–1.0mm motorized or manual micro-punch to extract follicles one by one from the donor area. This takes 2–4 hours.
For FUT: A thin strip of scalp is removed from the back of the head, then dissected into individual grafts under a microscope.
For DHI: A Choi Pen is used to extract follicles and keep them ready for direct implantation.

Grafts are stored in a special solution to maintain 95–99% survival.

Step 4: Creating Recipient Sites / Incisions

The doctor makes micro-channels using sapphire blades or needles in the balding area. The direction, angle, and depth follow your natural hair pattern to ensure a natural look. This step determines the crown “swirl” and hairline appearance.

Step 5: Graft Implantation

FUE/FUT: Grafts are placed one by one into the sites using micro forceps.
DHI: Grafts are implanted directly using the Choi Pen without pre-made incisions.

This takes 3–6 hours for 1,500–4,000 grafts. Total procedure time: 6–9 hours.

Step 6: Post-Treatment & Discharge

Your head is bandaged, and painkillers and antibiotics are provided. You can go home the same day. The clinic provides an aftercare kit + PRP to speed up healing.

FAQs About Hair Transplant Malaysia
1. How Much Does a Hair Transplant Cost in Malaysia?
Hair transplant costs in Malaysia vary depending on the technique used, the number of grafts required, the doctor's experience and the extent of hair loss. A personalised consultation provides the most accurate treatment estimate.
2. Which Hair Transplant Method Is Best: FUE, FUT or DHI?
There is no single best method for everyone. FUE, FUT and DHI each have different advantages depending on your hair loss pattern, donor hair availability, treatment goals and desired density.
3. Is a Hair Transplant Permanent?
Yes. Transplanted hair follicles are usually permanent because they are taken from areas resistant to pattern hair loss. However, your existing non-transplanted hair may continue thinning over time.
4. How Long Does a Hair Transplant Procedure Take?
Most hair transplant procedures take between 4 and 10 hours, depending on the number of grafts being transplanted and the treatment technique used.
5. When Will I See Hair Transplant Results?
New hair growth usually begins around 3 to 4 months after the procedure. Most patients see noticeable improvement by 6 months, with full results typically appearing between 12 and 18 months.
6. Is a Hair Transplant Painful?
The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia, so most patients experience little to no pain during treatment. Mild soreness, swelling or tightness may occur for a few days afterwards.
7. How Many Hair Grafts Will I Need?
The number of grafts depends on your level of hair loss and treatment goals. Patients commonly require between 1,000 and 4,000 grafts, although some advanced cases may need more.
8. Can Women Have a Hair Transplant?
Yes. Women experiencing certain types of hair loss may benefit from hair transplantation if they have sufficient healthy donor hair. A medical assessment is necessary to determine suitability.
9. What Are the Risks of a Hair Transplant?
Common temporary side effects include swelling, redness, scabbing and mild discomfort. Serious complications are uncommon when the procedure is performed by a qualified and experienced doctor.
10. How Do I Choose the Right Hair Transplant Doctor?
Choose a qualified doctor with experience in hair restoration, consistent before-and-after results, natural hairline design skills, transparent consultations and personalised treatment planning rather than focusing on price alone.
