Epicanthoplasty @ GLOJAS!

What is an Epicanthoplasty?

An Epicanthoplasty procedure aims to lengthen the inner parts of the eye to make the eyes bigger, brighter and more alert. It is Also called the “inner corner fold removal” or “Mongolian fold correction”, this is a cosmetic procedure done by Malaysia’s only Craniofacial Surgeon, Dr.Mohd Ali.

Our Surgeon

Dr.Mohd Ali is a qualified Plastic Surgeon of 15 years and sub-specialised in Craniofacial Surgery, meaning an expert in the reconstruction of head, ears, eyes, nose, mouth, face and neck region.

What is the purpose of an Epicanthoplasty?

An Epicanthoplasty is sought by women and men who would like to adopt eyes that not only “appear bigger, brighter, and more alert” but actually bigger physiologically. This procedure does not only focus on the inner eye fold, but also addresses the outer corner of the eyes. With lateral Epicanthoplasty, eyes can be significantly lengthened and slanted eyes can be corrected!

Epicanthoplasty is an ideal procedure for patients, whether male or female, who;

• Are in relatively good health

• Wish to improve their overall look without sacrificing descent or ethnicity

How does one qualify for an Epicanthoplasty procedure?

Once a patient has fully decided on Epicanthoplasty, a pre-surgical evaluation is performed to assess the severity of the Epicanthal fold. Once assessed, the incisions are planned and marked. There are two different types of Epicanthoplasty, which are;

Medial Epicanthoplasty

This focuses mainly on the inner corner of the eye, making the eye look bigger and more open; it can also straighten slanted eyes.

Lateral Epicanthoplasty

This procedure does not only focus on the inner eye fold, but also addresses the outer corner of the eyes. With lateral Epicanthoplasty, eyes can be significantly lengthened and slanted eyes can be corrected.

Will I be Knocked off under General Anesthesia?

The Epicanthoplasty procedure is performed on local anaesthesia (LA) hence you will be fully awake and aware during the entire procedure.

Is this procedure an Outpatient surgery?

Epicanthal surgery is an outpatient basis and lasts about an hour. After surgery, the eye region would appear swollen and bruised. This is very common.

Is there downtime?

A recovery period of two weeks is often recommended. During recovery, the eye region is allowed to heal and return to normal, so patients are advised to rest and refrain from strenuous activities and sports. Pain medication is prescribed to manage pain.

What is the cost?

It starts from USD1,000 onwards and it depends on the issues faced by the individual and the desired results.

Will there be close Aftercare?

Absolutely, Yes!

Corrective Nostrils Surgery

Glojas Plastic Surgery Centre has Malaysia’s ONLY fully qualified Craniofacial Surgeon, Dr.Mohd Ali. He holds more than 15 years of experience as a qualified Plastic Surgeon and Craniofacial Surgeon.

When does one need an Alarplasty?

When your nostrils are pointed upwards or appears in an unpleasant manner or when the nostrils are too obvious, an Alarplasty is a corrective surgery done to successfully solve the issue and it’s done on Local Anaesthetic.

What is Nostril Reduction Surgery?

Nostril reduction surgery or alar base reduction (alarplasty) is a cosmetic procedure that alters the lower part of the nose appearance and narrows the nostrils to make the nose more balanced within the whole face.

Who Is a Good Candidate?

People with wide and/or flared nostrils may benefit from this procedure.

How Is the Procedure Performed?

The surgery is performed by removing a wedge-shaped piece of soft tissue from the outer or lower base of your nostrils.

How long does the Procedure Take?

It takes about one hour to complete, and can be done under local anaesthesia.

What’s the importance of an Alarplasty?

The nose is considered by plastic surgeons as the focal point of attraction in the face, and its shape or “type” can widely vary between a person and another due to their ethnicity or race. The nose is divided in 3 areas, which are the bridge, the nasal tip and the alar rim-base, and any change in one of those nasal areas can drastically change the whole aspect of the face.

What is an Alarplasty?

According to experts, an Alarplasty (commonly called trimming of the nostril/alae) is a plastic surgery that allows narrowing the width of the nose by reducing the size and projection of the nasal wings. This procedure also allows improving the patient’s facial harmony and breathing.

Who can Undergo Alarplasty?

In general terms, any person who only wishes to reduce the width of his/her nasal wings can be a good candidate for an Alarplasty. Most experts say that, to determine if the nose has a “normal” width, you can draw an imaginary line from the nasal wings end to the point where the eye of each side begins. If those points match, you have a normal width in your nose.

Who is a Qualified Doctor for an Alarplasty?

It is important to know that only a qualified plastic surgeon can decide who is a good candidate for an Alarplasty because the width of the nose must be harmonious and proportional with the other facial structures. The surgeon will determine the best alar size to guarantee proper breathing.

What Must I Know Before Having Alarplasty?

You must visit a plastic surgeon to determine if you are a good candidate for this procedure. During the consultation you must ask the doctor any question about the procedure and the recovery process.
