Ptosis Corrective Surgery

Ptosis Corrective Surgery @ GLOJAS

What is Ptosis?

Drooping eyelids (ptosis) can be a developing problem as people age or a congenital one present from birth. Mild ptosis may not need treatment. However, if the ptosis is interfering with the vision, the Surgeon would recommend ptosis corrective surgery.

This surgery is performed by Malaysia’s ONLY fully qualified Craniofacial Surgeon, Dr.Mohd Ali.

What does Ptosis Surgery Involve?

Ptosis Surgery for adults
typically involves the shortening of the muscles (tendons) that have the function of raising the eyelid.

This muscle (tendon) is then reattached to the eyelid using sutures (row of stitches holding together the edge of a wound), which are hidden under the skin.

In some cases, the sutures (stitches) may remain slightly visible on the skin of the eyelids for one week after surgery, which is when they are typically removed.

What are the symptoms of Ptosis?

The obvious symptom of ptosis is a drooping eyelid, which can affect one or both of the eyes. The severity of the condition varies from person to person, but typically patients will find it difficult to keep their eyelids open, have eye fatigue especially when reading, have strained eyes and suffer from eyebrow ache as a result of the great effort required to raise their eyelids.

Ptosis causes the narrowing of the eye opening, meaning that the eye appears smaller than it actually is.

Is there Pain involved?

Very minimal as Local Anaesthetic will be administered.

How much does a Ptosis Surgery Cost?

It starts from USD2,000 onwards depending on the severity of the issue and desired results.

Is there downtime?

Yes, for at least 14 days.

Is there aftercare?

Patients are allowed to go home after a few hours following the surgery. Pain medication will be provided and an eye patch should be worn temporarily. It is not safe to drive home after the surgery so be sure to arrange suitable transportation. Antibiotic eye drops will be prescribed for several weeks after the operation and should be used correctly to aid healing. We will closely follow-up with you for aftercare.

Non-Invasive Eye Bag Removal

Eye bags are one of the banes of getting older and also of not getting enough sleep. They’re those “pouches” beneath eyes which can cause the sufferer to look permanently tired. If you have a predilection to eye bags then you may need to look at more permanent methods of improving the look of this area.

The skin around the eyes is extremely delicate and thin, it doesn’t repair itself as easily as other parts of the face and so it needs to be taken care of. At Glojas we use fractionated laser to penetrate below the skin and to stimulate collagen production. The treatment helps stimulate the re-growth of cells and it is highly effective in the treatment of eye bags.

What is the Glojas Difference?

Here at Glojas we use a combination of specific lasers for specific issues. Our lasers are imported from Europe and The United States. If one choses a Non-Invasive removal of Eye bags, we effectively do this with our latest Fractional Laser administered to the eye region and eye bags. This is then followed by Skin Tightening Radiofrequency Treatment. Yes, the choice is yours should you choose both treatments for the eye region and eye bags but be fully aware that it’s highly advisable to do it for the full face.

Great Image, Great Looks and Youthfulness demand patience, time and consistency!

What is the cost?

It starts from USD200 onwards depending on the issue and desired results.

Eye bag Removal @ GLOJAS

The eyes are the window to the soul. So when your eyes show signs of aging; excess skin, bags or wrinkles, the perception is that of being tired or old. Formally known as Blepharoplasty, eye bag removal is a plastic surgical procedure to refresh the eyes by removing excess skin in the upper and lower eyelids. Eye bags caused by drooping fat can also be corrected either by excision of excess fat or repositioning the fat.

What is the aim of the Surgery?

The aim of surgery is to achieve a refreshed, rejuvenated, natural appearance.

What is a Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty is a cosmetic surgical procedure to refresh the eyes by removing excess skin (hooding) and or fat (eye bags) to rejuvenate the eyes providing a youthful appearance. The eyes can give a tired appearance, hooded upper eyelids or puffy lower eyelids, even though you are well rested. Surgery aims to reverse or improve the appearance of the eyes to give a refreshed natural appearance. If the upper eyelids are very heavy, hooded, these can feel very tired and following surgery the eyelids feel more comfortable and refreshed.

Is there downtime?

Yes, between 10 to 14 days for the healing process.

How much does it cost?

It starts from USD1,000 onwards and depends on the issue and desired results.

Our In-House Plastic Surgeon

Here at Glojas, a Blepharoplasty, eye bag surgery is performed under local anaesthetic as a day case. Both Upper eyelid surgery & Eye bay removal is commonly performed under local anaesthetic by our In-House Plastic Surgeon, Dr.Mohd Ali who is also one of Malaysia’s leading Plastic Surgeons. Dr.Mohd Ali is also Malaysia’s sole Craniofacial Surgeon who holds more than 15 years of experience hence you’re in the best of hands under him. Craniofacial Surgeons subspecialize into the reconstruction of Head, Face and Neck region.

The Follow-Up Care & Recommended Exilis Radiofrequency

You will be called on some days for the first two weeks after the surgery just for half an hour. It is recommended that after a month of surgery, the patient does an Exilis Radiofrequency Treatment for the entire face, eyes and neck every once a week for a month. This treatment enhances tighter, youthful and radiant skin which will be highly noticeable in public. Yes, for maintenance, one can undergo an Exilis Treatment once a month for the following 3 months and then once in 3 months. Beauty and Aesthetics is never a one off thing, it requires diligent maintenance but results of surgery are permanent.

Eye Bag Removal Without Surgery!

Eye bags are one of the banes of getting older and also of not getting enough sleep. They’re those “pouches” beneath eyes which can cause the sufferer to look permanently tired. Sometimes their appearance may be temporarily improved by the instigation of a good, toxin free diet, more hydration and sleep but in general if you have a predilection to eye bags then you may need to look at more permanent methods of improving the look of this area.

The skin around the eyes is extremely delicate and thin, it doesn’t repair itself as easily as other parts of the face and so it needs to be taken care of. Late nights, a less than perfect diet and the effects of the sun and ageing can all take their toll on this area with the result that looking tired becomes the “norm”. Because most of us want to look fresh, bright and healthy it makes sense that a treatment which can rejuvenate the area is going to be most welcome.

This ingenious and non-invasive treatment uses fractionated laser to penetrate below the skin and to stimulate collagen production. The treatment helps stimulate the re-growth of cells and it is highly effective in the treatment of eye bags.

Yes, the choice is yours should you choose both treatments for the eye region and eye bags but be fully aware that it’s highly advisable to do it for full face.

Fractional Laser can only be done once a month and one would need at least 3 sessions. Radiofrequency on the other hand must be done once in every 7 days without a break in the chain for the next 8 weeks followed by once in 3 months. There must be awareness that when it comes to Aesthetics and Beauty, there is no one miraculous treatment for a lifetime. It always requires several sessions and maintenance. Great Image, Great Looks and Youthfulness demand patience, time and consistency!

Best Epicanthoplasty @ GLOJAS!

Glojas Plastic Surgery Centre is located in an affluent residential area in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. It’s a Medical Practice founded by Dato’ Dr.JasG and has been in practice for more than 20 years. The In-House Plastic Surgeon is Dr.Mohd Ali who is one of Malaysia’s leading Plastic Surgeons and Malaysia’s ONLY fully qualified Craniofacial Surgeon who holds more than 15 years of rich experience, knowledge and talent. Dr.Mohd Ali is highly sort after and is often called in as consultant for many complex cases faced by various Medical Centres. He is also invigilator and examiner for doctors sitting for their plastic surgery specialization.

An Epicanthoplasty, known medically as Medial or Lateral Epicanthoplasty, is a type of eye surgery that aims to lengthen the inner parts of the eye to make the eye bigger. Also called the “inner corner fold removal” or “Mongolian fold correction”, this is a cosmetic procedure mostly performed in Asian countries.

One of the most prominent Asian features is the Mongolian fold (medically known as the epicanthal fold) found in the corners of the eyes. The epicanthal fold forms a web across the eye and covers the medial canthus. Simply put, this fold can impair the beauty of the eyelids and makes the eyes look smaller laterally and more tired-looking.

Epicanthoplasty is sought by women and men who would like to adopt a more “Westernized look” or to make the eyes not only “appear bigger, brighter, and more alert” but actually bigger physiologically. It is also often requested by patients whose epicanthal folds are abnormally large that they negatively impact the appearance and shape of the eyes. This cosmetic procedure may leave post-surgical scar lines due to incisions but can be avoided by using more advanced techniques such as Z-plasty.

Dr.Mohd Ali, Qualified Medical Doctor, Qualified Plastic, Reconstructive & Craniofacial Surgeon

Here at Glojas, our in-house plastic surgeon is one of Malaysia’s leading plastic surgeons and Malaysia’s ONLY Craniofacial Surgeon. He brings along 15 years of rich experience, knowledge and talent. He is renown, respected and trusted globally. The extra edge of doing an epicanthoplasty with Dr.Mohd Ali is, he is Malaysia’s ONLY Craniofacial Surgeon, meaning a highly specialised surgeon in the reconstruction of Head, Ears, Eye Region, Nose, Mouth, Face & Neck Region.

Who Should Undergo and The Expected Results?

Epicanthoplasty is a cosmetic procedure that can be taken advantage by anyone who wishes to literally open their eyes wider than is physiologically possible. The majority of epicanthoplasty patients are of Asian descent, but it can be performed on anyone whose appearance can improve with larger eyes. Larger eyes mean brighter and more alert looking eyes that captivates.

Specifically, epicanthoplasty is an ideal procedure for patients, whether male or female, who:

  • Are in relatively good health
  • Have well-developed epicanthal folds that compromise the normal appearance and shape of the eye *Have eyes that are abnormally far from each other in terms of distance, leading to a disproportionate appearance
  • Wish to improve their overall look without sacrificing descent or ethnicity
  • Have undergone or wishes to undergo double eyelid surgery to enhance their look further

How is the Procedure Performed?

Once a patient has fully decided on epicanthoplasty, a pre-surgical evaluation is performed to assess the severity of the epicanthal fold. Once assessed, the incisions are planned and marked. There are two different types of epicanthoplasty, which are:

  • Medial epicanthoplasty – This focuses mainly on the inner corner of the eye, making the eye look bigger and more open; it can also straighten slanted eyes.
  • Lateral epicanthoplasty – This procedure does not only focus on the inner eye fold, but also addresses the outer corner of the eyes. With lateral epicanthoplasty, eyes can be significantly lengthened and slanted eyes can be corrected.
Following a thorough assessment, the doctor will advise as to which procedure is best for the patient’s specific needs.

The actual epicanthoplasty usually starts with the application of local anesthesia. Once in effect, the cosmetic surgeon will make pre-planned incisions around the corner of the eye. Through these incisions, the surgeon creates small flaps to restructure the shape of the inner eyelid. Excess skin will be removed. In lateral epicanthoplasty, incisions on the outer corners of the eyes are also made. After the surgeon successfully “opens up” the eyes, the area is delicately sutured to close the open skin folds.

Epicanthal surgery is usually performed on an outpatient basis and lasts about 30 minutes to an hour. After surgery, the eyelids would appear swollen and bruised. A recovery period of two weeks is often recommended. During recovery, the eyelids are allowed to heal and return to normal, so patients are advised to rest and refrain from strenuous activities and sports. Pain medication is prescribed to manage pain. Wearing eye makeup is discouraged until after the sutures have been removed (a week after surgery).

  1. How long is the downtime post-surgery?

It takes two to three weeks for healing process

  1. What can I expect from this procedure? You will certainly have brighter, bigger and more alert looking eyes which captivates and yes, in many ways, it would enhance your beauty and image

Best Eyelid Creation

Upper Eyelid Surgery

Glojas Plastic Surgery Centre is located in an affluent residential area in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. Our In-House Surgeon is one of Malaysia’s leading Plastic Surgeons and Malaysia’s only fully qualified Craniofacial Surgeon. Dr.Mohd Ali holds more than 15 years of rich experience in Cosmetic, Corrective and Craniofacial Surgery.

We are an establishment for Aesthetics and Plastic Surgery for more than 20 years under our founding CEO Dato’ Dr.JasG. He is a qualified Medical Doctor, Licensed Aesthetic Medicine Doctor & a Qualified Hair Restoration Doctor from The American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery (ABHRS).

Upper eyelid surgery can rejuvenate puffy, sagging or tired-looking eyes by removing or redistributing excess fat, skin and muscle from the upper eyelid. Also known as upper blepharoplasty, it may be performed for purely cosmetic reasons, or to improve sight by lifting droopy eyelids out of the field of vision. The surgery aims to recreate a fresh, open and youthful appearance.

There is a wide range of possible procedures performed under local anaesthesia. Incisions are placed either in the natural lines above the eye, providing a quickly fading scar, or inside the lid, resulting in instant invisibility.

The eyelids are among the most delicate structures in the face, composed of fine layers of soft tissue and the thinnest skin in the human body (eyelid skin being less than 1 mm thick, with sparse underlying subcutaneous fat). This relative absence of a padding fat layer predisposes to the characteristic skin laxity and fine wrinkles that appear with age.

Volume enhancing eyelid surgery (tissue-sparing blepharoplasty)

Volume-enhancing upper eyelid surgery or ‘tissue-sparing upper blepharoplasty.’ Unlike traditional techniques which alter volume proportions between fat and muscle (and may have negative effects on ageing in the long term), this method reconstructs and maintains a person’s previous youthful appearance by repositioning rather than removing tissue. It is our In-House Plastic Surgeon, Dr.Mohd Ali’s opinion that this approach best considers the aging process in this area and delivers results that are the most rejuvenating and long lasting.

Lower Eyelid Surgery

Lower eyelids may suffer from loss of skin/muscle tone and fat accumulation over time, which can cause bulging beneath the eyes and hence the formation of eye bags. Surgery (known as lower blepharoplasty) helps rejuvenate lower eyelids by relocating or removing excess fat, and where indicated, tightening and strengthening loose or sagging tissue. The results are softened wrinkles, tightened skin and improved eyelid function.

There is a wide range of possible procedures performed under local anaesthesia. Incisions are placed either under the lash line, providing a quickly fading scar or inside the lid (transconjunctival surgery), resulting in instant invisibility.

The lower eyelid with associated Canthal Ligaments and Cartilage (Tarsal Plate) is among the finest and most complex of facial structures. It protects the eye and helps to keep the eyeball moist and healthy.

Muscle-conserving lower eyelid surgery

Though there are several approaches to the lower eyelid, the optimal strategy is to spare or redistribute tissue rather than remove it, and to retain fullness of the lid and the periorbital area.

For most cosmetic lower eyelid surgery, Dr.Mohd Ali employs the Transconjunctival approach, a technique which involves cutting along the inside surface of the eyelid rather than through the outer skin. Fat is then conservatively removed or repositioned to restore eyelid fullness. This method of access conserves the structural integrity of the eye muscle and nerves, leaving motor function intact. Furthermore, the healing process is enhanced and it results in no visible scarring of the skin.

Several options for treating loose skin may be considered along with Transconjunctival eyelid surgery. These include microsurgical skin trimming, skin peel or laser skin resurfacing.

Canthopexy

Canthopexy can be one of the most important and rejuvenative components of lower eyelid surgery. It is a surgical tightening of the outer corner of the eye, which may become loose or rounded with age. The procedure can restore the shape of the eye and improve the tension of the lower eyelid. Canthopexy is a tissue-conserving procedure that reinforces the existing tendon without cutting or detaching it. The restoration of tension within the tendon and muscles reduces the amount of fat that requires removal, which helps prevent the future development of lower eyelid hollowness.

Canthopexy is frequently combined with a light surgical tightening of the Orbicularis Oculi muscle, as improved muscle tone will help raise sunken eyelid tissue and soften the border between the eyelid and cheek.

Dr.Mohd Ali is one of Malaysia’s leading Plastic Surgeon and he is also Malaysia’s sole Craniofacial Surgeon hence patients can be rest assured that they are in the best of hands with Dr.Mohd Ali who brings along with him more than 15 years of experience.
