Is a hair transplant procedure affordable?

Hair transplant cost will vary depending on the number of Grafts. For moderate hair loss, you can expect to pay USD1,000 onwards.

What is an FUE Hair Transplant?

FUE (follicular unit extraction, or sometimes referred to as follicular unit transplantation) is a type of hair transplant surgery that involves extracting individual hair follicles from a donor part of the body, usually the sides and back of the head. These individual follicles are then implanted in the areas that are affected. Typically, with men suffering from male pattern baldness, this will be the classic horseshoe area.

How long do Hair Transplant results last?

Once you have undergone FUE, the results are permanent. While the initial transplanted hair will shed a few weeks after treatment, it will grow back strong and healthy.

How does a FUE Hair Transplant work?

FUE works by extracting naturally occurring groups of one to four hairs, and transplanting these to the area of the scalp, typically the area that is balding. Surgeons will first work to remove groups of between one and four hairs. These groups of hairs are typically extracted from the sides of the head or back of the neck, using a specialised extraction instrument less than 1mm in diameter. These follicles are then transferred to the recipient area of the scalp and implanted using a powerful stereo microscope. We take great care to implant the hairs at the correct angle to mimic the old hair, just as it would naturally grow.

What is an FUT Hair Transplant?

In an FUT, the entire strip of the hair is harvested in one go and then dissected into individual follicles later. This leaves a very distinctive and noticeable lateral scar along the back of the head. During FUE, groups of between one and four hairs are individually extracted from the scalp and transplanted to the new area of the scalp, trying to mimic the pattern of the hair that used to grow there. This FUT procedure leaves liner scarring on the donor area.

How long does recovery take after undergoing a Hair Transplant?

When it comes to recovery time, there is also a noticeable difference between FUE and FUT. In FUE hair transplants, there is minimal bleeding, and recovery is usually complete within seven days.

However, during FUT, as an entire strip of the scalp has been excised, it often takes weeks for the scars to heal over.

Would I be required to come in for follow-ups?

Here at Glojas, we journey with you from Pre Procedure to Post Procedure which includes close aftercare. Hair Transplant aftercare is vital for successful results of any Hair Transplant Procedure.

Best Alopecia Areata Treatment

“Think Hair Issues, Think Glojas!” Yes, Glojas International Hair Transplant Centre is your one stop Medical Centre for all Hair Issues!

Alopecia is a condition in which hairs are lost from some or all areas of the body. In fact, alopecia areata is also known as spot baldness for this reason. Most commonly, patients have bald spots on their scalps about the size of a coin. Alopecia is the loss or the absence of hair. Alopecia areata is an autoimmune disease, which can also involve hair all over the body. In simple terms, the immune system, for unknown reasons, attacks the hair root and causes hair loss.

Types of alopecia areata:

  1. Localized Alopecia areata: This is the most common type. This form of alopecia usually presents with round, smooth patches of various sizes of hair loss. The duration of alopecia areata is variable. It may resolve spontaneously within weeks or be recurrent over a lifetime. It may go away on its own or may last for many years. It can involve any hair-bearing site, including eyebrows, eyelashes and beards.
  2. Alopecia totalis: Loss of all hair on the scalp.
  3. Alopecia Universalis: Loss of all scalp and body hair.

There are few symptoms associated with alopecia areata. Occasionally nail changes may occur, associated symptoms, one being alopecia of the nails. The surface of the nails may appear dull and rough, nails may have tiny dents, may have ridges or small dents referred to as nail pitting. This does not typically cause any discomfort. Alopecia areata affects approximately 1- 2 percent of the population. This common skin disease is highly unpredictable.

What happens in alopecia areata?

Alopecia areata usually begins when clumps of hair fall out, resulting in totally smooth, round hairless patches on the scalp or other areas of the body. In some cases the hair may become thinner without noticeable patches of baldness, or it may grow and break off, leaving short stubs (called “exclamation point” hair). In rare cases, complete loss of scalp hair and body hair occurs. The hair loss often comes and goes—hair will grow back over several months in one area but will fall out in another area.

When alopecia areata results in patches of hair loss, the hair usually grows back in a few months. Although the new hair is usually the same colour and texture as the rest of the hair, it sometimes is fine and white.

About 10% of people with this condition may never regrow hair. You are more likely to have permanent hair loss if you:

  • Have a family history of the condition.
  • Have the condition at a young age (before puberty) or for longer than 1 year.
  • Have another autoimmune disease.
  • Are prone to allergies (atopy).
  • Have extensive hair loss.
  • Have abnormal colour, shape, texture, or thickness of the fingernails or toenails.

Because hair is an important part of appearance, hair loss can result in feeling unattractive.

In some people with alopecia areata, the fingernails and toenails become pitted—they look as if a pin had made many tiny dents in them. They may also look like sandpaper.

Alopecia areata cannot be “cured” but it can be treated. Most people who have one episode will have more episodes of hair loss.

The most common procedure is the SMART FUE where individual hairs are grafted one by one from the donor region and harvest over a larger area. The surgeon is usually able to harvest one of every five follicles, FUE Procedures leave no Scars.

A FUT transplant involves taking a small strip of tissue from the donor area with a microscopic dissection process. The surgeon then closes the wound edge, leaving only a single, fine scar behind. There are three steps to the Eyebrow procedure; hair preparation, hair extraction, and hair placement.

Hair Transplant by ABHRS Diplomate

“ Malaysia’s Sole ABHRS Diplomate & One of Malaysia’s Top Plastic Surgeons come together bringing only the best results on par with World Class Standards!”

There are two common types of hair transplant surgery available on the market: “FUT” and “FUE”. This two types include stem cells and PRP.

FUT stands for follicular unit transplantation and is otherwise known as “strip surgery”. This involves removing a piece of skin, dividing it under a microscope into individual groupings of follicular units and then those are transplanted into the recipient area.

FUE stands for follicular unit excision. It used to stand for extraction, except excision sounds more like the sort of thing only a doctor should do and so it was changed. Rather than a strip, FUE involves individual follicular extraction in which follicles are removed within a small circular punch that is less than a millimetre in diameter. FUE is newer, but both types have merit and both should be considered.

“THERE IS, REALISTICALLY, ONLY A HANDFUL OF SURGEONS WHO PERFORM VERY GOOD, STATE OF THE ART SURGERY AND WHO UTILISE THE RIGHT HAIRS IN THE RIGHT PLACE”

“There is, realistically, only a handful of surgeons who perform very good, state of the art surgery and who utilise the right hairs in the right place,” said Stevenson. A lot of clinics are trying to open up, cutting corners and quality in an attempt to profit off the increased interest in surgery thanks to celebrity examples.

The cost is a good guide to whether it’s a trustworthy Hair Transplant Centre or not. You should be looking to pay anything between USD4,000 to USD6,000 for full coverage. One important rule that you should be looking for in a doctor is not someone desperate or keen to get you into the operating theatre but a doctor who has the right credentials, rich experience and passion.

“ILL-INFORMED DECISIONS BY PEOPLE DESPERATE FOR A QUICK FIX or solely cheap costs, CAN END UP MAKING BAD DECISIONS.”

You have to take people back a few steps, because people need to know what’s going to happen to the rest of their hair. You need somebody who tells you what you need to hear, not what you want to hear. “They’ll tell you it’s easy to do. They’ll get you in next week, offer you a discount.” This is not an encouraged medical practice. A good practitioner will inform you and educate you on the procedure and whether you may need a transplant or other conventional treatments or a combination of both.

Find a surgeon who is thinking about how your hair will look your whole life long. Patients often can’t see beyond the first one or two years. They just want to look good in their twenties and they get a hairline put in that looks terrible once the rest of their hair falls out. A good doctor, will ward you away from quick fixes.

What to look for in a doctor

  1. Who is doing the surgery?

If the person you’re talking to can’t tell you who the doctor is going to be that’s an alarm bell, as they might be flying in an unlicensed, unaccountable doctor or in most cases, a doctor with no proper Hair Transplant credentials.

  1. Look for quality, rather than quantity, from a doctor.

A doctor with credentials who personally performs the surgery which can take a full day.

  1. Is the procedure done by the doctor?

Cheaper clinics may aim to have nurses or technicians perform the entire procedure. The cutting of skin and the injecting of the anaesthetic, the planning of the hairline, seem like simple things, but in reality you’ve got to be able to plan something that works for the rest of the patient’s life.

  1. Is the team of medical staff working for the same Doctor or brought in only for the procedure?
  2. Qualifications.

If the Hair Transplant Doctor is a Diplomate, it clearly shows the highest level of Hair Transplant Surgery qualification. https://abhrs.org/directory/?zoom=14&is_mile=1&directory_radius=0&keywords=Dato&address=&directory_radius=0&center=&address_type=

The surgery

The donor area is checked for strength and density, doctor will advise the transplant of grafts over a one-day procedure, lasting eight hours. The big day will start off with having the head shaved. After the area is cleaned and given local anaesthetic, the doctor will begin with the hair transplant procedure. The procedure take a full day of at least 8 hours for a full coverage of transplantation.
