Ptosis Corrective Surgery

Ptosis Corrective Surgery @ GLOJAS

What is Ptosis?

Drooping eyelids (ptosis) can be a developing problem as people age or a congenital one present from birth. Mild ptosis may not need treatment. However, if the ptosis is interfering with the vision, the Surgeon would recommend ptosis corrective surgery.

This surgery is performed by Malaysia’s ONLY fully qualified Craniofacial Surgeon, Dr.Mohd Ali.

What does Ptosis Surgery Involve?

Ptosis Surgery for adults
typically involves the shortening of the muscles (tendons) that have the function of raising the eyelid.

This muscle (tendon) is then reattached to the eyelid using sutures (row of stitches holding together the edge of a wound), which are hidden under the skin.

In some cases, the sutures (stitches) may remain slightly visible on the skin of the eyelids for one week after surgery, which is when they are typically removed.

What are the symptoms of Ptosis?

The obvious symptom of ptosis is a drooping eyelid, which can affect one or both of the eyes. The severity of the condition varies from person to person, but typically patients will find it difficult to keep their eyelids open, have eye fatigue especially when reading, have strained eyes and suffer from eyebrow ache as a result of the great effort required to raise their eyelids.

Ptosis causes the narrowing of the eye opening, meaning that the eye appears smaller than it actually is.

Is there Pain involved?

Very minimal as Local Anaesthetic will be administered.

How much does a Ptosis Surgery Cost?

It starts from USD2,000 onwards depending on the severity of the issue and desired results.

Is there downtime?

Yes, for at least 14 days.

Is there aftercare?

Patients are allowed to go home after a few hours following the surgery. Pain medication will be provided and an eye patch should be worn temporarily. It is not safe to drive home after the surgery so be sure to arrange suitable transportation. Antibiotic eye drops will be prescribed for several weeks after the operation and should be used correctly to aid healing. We will closely follow-up with you for aftercare.
