What is an Inverted Nipple?

An inverted nipple is a condition in which the nipple is pulled inward into the breast instead of pointing outward. They’re actually quite common. An estimated 10 to 20 percent of women have flat or inverted nipples. For some women nipple stimulation or cold temperatures can draw the nipples out temporarily.

 

Can Inverted nipples cause problems?

In most cases, long-standing nipple inversion or retraction doesn’t cause any problem. For some women, it can interfere with breastfeeding.

 

What is Inverted Nipple Surgery?

It is a fast medical procedure, in which one nipple can be corrected in the case of a one-sided anomaly or both nipples can be corrected at the same time. The surgery involves incisions on both side of the nipple followed by cutting the fiber tissues to pull the nipple inward and reinforced to push outward from the inside and then followed by suturing the tissues in the middle to prevent recurrence.

 

When do you need inverted nipple correction?

1. If you have beautiful breast but inverted nipples.

2. If you have congenitally inverted nipples.

3. If you have problem breast feeding after childbirth.

4. If you have increase secretion around the nipples causing inflammation and papilitis.

5. If you have tissue contracture underneath the nipples after breast surgery.

 

Is it painful?

It is done under local anesthesia, meaning you are fully awake but you will receive medicine to numb the area and block the pain.

 

How long does Inverted Nipple last?

It is a long lasting treatment and one-time surgery.

 

How long is the recovery?

There will be minimal bruising and swelling for atleast 7 days.

 

Will there be after care?

You will be given medication for swelling, pain, antibiotic and antibiotic cream for you to apply in the nipple area after clean. We suggest you wear comfortable bra and care for your incision site as directed. Yes, there will be close follow-ups.
